5 Tips To Prepare Your Home For Winter

Updated: Nov 2, 2019

You can't predict when bad weather will hit. In Oklahoma, you pretty much have to prepare for the worst. Here are some tips to make sure your home is ready for winter weather.

1- Cleaning your gutters, spouts, and drains reduces the weight of the gutters along the edge of your roof. Cleaning out leaves, dirt, and debris should be done at least twice a year.

2- Inspect the valleys of your roof, which are prone to leaks.

3- Assess the chimney, if you have one. If brick or mortar is missing, this needs to be replaced.

4- Check for loose shingles. This needs to be done after a sever storm hits. Curling of shingles is an indication they need to be replaced.

5- Look in attic. Make sure there's plenty of insulation. Any heat that can escape can get trapped underneath your shingles.

Prioritize all inspections BEFORE a storm arrives!
